“I am drawn to that repetitive view, a sort of suspended in time moment. An intricate repetition of a single natural element.” – Beth Bowman

Beth Bowman, the creative genius behind Bowman Ceramics is meticulous in her commitment to creating stoneware pieces of functional art, designed to serve generations. She takes formless clay, wedges it, throws it into mugs, cups, plates & bowls then trims and bisque fires each piece to 1,845 degrees Fahrenheit. Bowman then continues the process by hand with masking, glazing and high firing at 2,345 degrees.

There is a long process that goes into taking the clay body, which is much like mud, and changing it into stoneware that will last for years.” she goes on to say. But this commitment to her craft serves a forever-excited customer base that will tell you: it’s worth it.

Bowman is creating something special in Long Beach – something uniquely suited to individuals who believe that everyday objects should (and do) hold a lasting, intrinsic value… Consistently becoming better with age as they enhance the processes (like eating & drinking) we often do unconsciously.

To experience Beth’s stoneware for yourself and bring home a few pieces of her work, visit us at The Club House at Howl in Long Beach, CA (Open 12-6, Wednesday-Saturday).
